Nissan 240SX with M3 style mirrors
The Nissan 240SX was a car introduced to the North American market by Nissan in 1989. It replaced the 200SX (RWD) in 1989. The 240SX was equipped with a 2.4-litre inline 4 engine, rear wheel drive. (KA24E from 1989-1990 and KA24DE from 1991-1998). Two distinct generations of the 240SX, the S13 (1989-1994) and the S14 (1995-1998), were produced from the Nissan S platform. The 240SX is closely related to other S vehicles: the Japanese-market Silvia and 180SX and the European-market 200SX. Many modifications can be done to your Nissan to make it look sportier and perform better.
Installing M3 style mirrors is one of those neat projects that can really add some spice to the look of your Nissan without taking up too much of your time. The total install time for a pair of M3 style mirrors should be less than two hours.
Aftermarket mirrors are available in different materials, including FRP plastic, carbon fiber and fiberglass. Plenty of different styles are available such as D1 style, F1 style and M3 styles. You can also get them in manual or electric, and get them with or without LED turn signals built in.
The toughest part of the job is actually finding a set of mirrors that will match your body color. If your Nissan is white or black, there are usually aftermarket mirrors available in those two colors. Any other color will need to be custom-painted to match your body paint.
Some aftermarket mirrors are manufactured with an additional lamp in the side. This can be wired to either to your parking lamps or your turn-signal lamps. Either one requires additional wiring to be threaded through the door, so I usually don't recommend this approach. Most of the cars I've seen with lamps in the side of the mirrors don't actually have them connected-they're just for show.
From 1995 to 1996 the 240SX (S14b) is considered the Zenki model. The base model had 4 lug 15-inch wheels, a softer suspension, and no rear sway bar. SE and LE models came equipped with 16-inch, 5-lug alloy wheels, a stiffer suspension versus the base model, and a rear sway bar all standard on the SE. The LE was equipped with leather seats, keyless entry, an antitheft system, and a CD player. Antilock brakes and a viscous limited-slip differential came as an optional package to the SE model. JDM and USDM S14b (b = before) both had plastic housing lights while the European version had glass.
