Rearview mirror DVR to record your drive

In a merge between home electronics and the auto aftermarket segment comes this handy device by Brickhouse Security, the Rear view Mirror DVR.  This device replaces your oem mirror and plugs into your cigarette lighter.  When I came across this product I thought to myself, "Only if I had this when that guy cut me off on the freeway causing me to hit him.."

Brickhouse Security has created a camera that mounts behind your rearview mirror and  records your commute in the event you need the footage later.   Ever been in an accident and wished you had in-car camera footage so you could explain to everyone what really happened and why it wasn't your fault.    The camera is very small and does not obstruct the drivers view at all.  It is legal in all 50 states.  The footage is displayed on a 2.5-inch LCD screen on the face of the mirror, which also includes handy playback controls in case you just want to see the instant replay immediately, or relive the commute to work when you get there.

The recording begins when you start your car and ends when you shut the engine off.  The media records to an SD memory card, is stamped with the date and time, and can be played back on any computer or a television.  If there's any down side, it's that the mirror needs to be plugged in to your cigarette lighter to work. But that's the price of CSI ingenuity, and it will, heaven forbid, pay for itself the first time you can prove that "no-fault" accident was actually very much the other person's fault.

In the future I would expect a second camera mounted in the rear bumper to allow recording of what is going on behind you also.  The controls could be adjusted to have a toggle switch interface to switch from front camera viewing to rear camera viewing.
